Learning and Pastoral Care

The emotional health and wellbeing of our children is a high priority at Monkspath School. Our 12 whole school core values underpin all aspects of school life.

Our approach to developing and supporting our children’s wellbeing takes place through whole school, small group and individual initiatives and support.

Life is not perfect and supporting our children and families during the challenging times is very important at Monkspath School.  We have a team of trained staff who offer individual and small group support to children experiencing issues such as bereavement, family split, anxiety, low self-esteem etc. In additiona to class teachers, there are staff based across the school who develop relationships with all children through supporting their learning, alongside the emotional support they offer.  Children and families are strongly encouraged to inform school of any issues that arise to enable us to offer support as soon as it is needed.

Our two Family Support Workers work with families across school to provide support for a wide range of needs. We have a counsellor who works with individual children where this support has been idenified as being needed through discussion with parents.

Our ‘open door’ policy enables parents and carers to have constant dialogue with staff, this ensures early intervention takes place should issues arise.

Whole school, age appropriate, teaching of personal, social and emotional aspects of learning, E-safety, Anti-bullying, relationships and drug and alcohol education, enable children to develop their understanding of themselves, their relationships and how to make informed choices as they grow and develop. We use ‘Restorative Thinking’ as an approach to support children in understanding their impact on others and develop their ability to forgive and apologise, linking this to our values.

Our holistic approach ensures all aspects of our emotional health and wellbeing support are carried through into our before and after school provision and holiday club.
