Monkspath Junior and Infant School

Safeguarding

At Monkspath School, safeguarding is a fundamental part of our ethos. We are committed to ensuring that all children feel safe, secure, and supported in every aspect of school life. We work closely with families, Solihull Local Authority, and external agencies to promote the welfare and wellbeing of every child.

Our Safeguarding Approach

We follow the statutory guidance outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education and implement robust safeguarding procedures across the school. All staff receive regular training and understand how to identify and respond to concerns effectively.

Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy can be found on the policies page of this website.

Key Safeguarding Areas

  • Child Protection: Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are trained to manage concerns and referrals, ensuring children are protected from harm.
  • Online Safety: We teach children how to stay safe online and support parents with guidance and resources.
  • Safer Recruitment: All staff and volunteers undergo enhanced DBS checks and follow safer recruitment practices.
  • Mental Health & Wellbeing: We promote emotional wellbeing through our curriculum, pastoral care, and access to external support.
  • Prevent Duty: We are committed to safeguarding children from radicalisation and extremism through education and vigilance.
  • Operation Encompass: We are part of this national initiative that supports children who have experienced domestic abuse. When police attend a domestic incident, the school is notified before the next school day so we can provide appropriate support to the child.

Duty to Share Information

As part of our safeguarding responsibilities, we have a legal duty to share relevant information with Children’s Services and the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) when we have concerns about a child’s welfare. This ensures that children and families receive the right support at the right time. We always aim to work in partnership with parents and carers, but the safety of the child is our top priority.

Family Support

We are proud to have two Family Support Workers who work closely with parents and carers to offer guidance, practical help, and emotional support. Whether you're facing challenges at home, need help accessing services, or simply want someone to talk to, our team is here to help.

More information about the support available for families, along with contact details of a wide range of external support services, can be found by clicking here.
