Welcome To Monkspath School

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Monkspath School.
We are a highly successful and much‑loved school with a proud tradition of being ambitious, open, friendly and deeply caring. Since opening in September 1986, Monkspath has always been a school built on strong relationships, high expectations and a deep commitment to its community. Families choose Monkspath because it is a school where children are happy, challenged and encouraged to be the very best they can be. At Monkspath, we truly see ourselves as a family.
One of Monkspath’s greatest strengths is its stability. In almost forty years, the school has had just three Head Teachers: Mrs Griffiths, our first Head Teacher from 1986 until her retirement in 2002; Mrs Hutchinson, from September 2002 until her retirement in August 2021; and myself, since September 2021. This tradition of long‑standing service is reflected across our leadership and staff team.
Our Deputy Head Teacher team has also been exceptionally stable. When Monkspath opened, the school was led by two Deputy Heads: Mr Dadswell, who served well into the 1990s, and Mrs Mellor, who remained in post until her retirement in August 2006. From September 2006 to August 2021, I was honoured to serve as Deputy Head Teacher before becoming Head Teacher. Today, we continue this tradition of long service with our three Deputy Heads – Mrs Walton, Mrs Jervis and Mr Hogarth – all of whom have already dedicated many years to the Monkspath community.
Many of our staff have served the Monkspath community for decades, providing continuity, deep expertise and a strong sense of belonging for our children and families. As of January 2026, 27 members of staff have worked at Monkspath for at least ten years, including 20 for over twenty years and 5 for more than thirty years. This is a rare and special strength for any school. Such continuity provides children with a secure, nurturing environment and gives families confidence that their child’s education is in safe, experienced hands, with a staff team united by a shared commitment to helping every child thrive.
Our school values are at the heart of everything we do. They guide how we work together, how we support children’s development across the curriculum, and how we nurture positive relationships, confidence and personal growth.
We have high aspirations for all our children. We promote excellence not only in core subjects but also through a wide range of rich and engaging experiences that bring our curriculum to life. Learning at Monkspath is fun, stimulating, challenging and deeply rewarding.
We are incredibly proud of our children – their achievements, their enthusiasm and their love of learning. They embrace the many opportunities school life offers with energy and joy.
Monkspath is a caring and inclusive community where every child is encouraged to develop confidence and a strong sense of self‑worth. The positive feedback we receive from families and secondary schools confirms that our children leave us well prepared – academically, socially and emotionally – for the next stage of their journey. We continue to follow their progress with pride and interest.
We expect all our children to be kind, responsible and respectful. Combined with our focus on academic excellence, this creates a happy, thriving and vibrant school environment where children feel safe, valued and inspired to succeed.
Choosing a primary school is an important decision, and we hope our website gives you a sense of what makes Monkspath such a special place. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to Monkspath School.
Mr D. Wild, Head Teacher
