Year 2 Africa Day - 21st October 2025
On Tuesday 21st October, an exciting ‘Wow – Day’ has been planned for your children to bring together all of their learning about Africa in Literacy, Geography and Art.
The day will involve the children experiencing arrival at an airport and a flight to Africa (Monkspath playground!). During the day there will be a visit from a company called DWAEC Dinosaur, Wildlife and Education Centre, who will be bringing along some meerkats and other African animals (no lions or elephants!) for the children to meet and learn about. As part of the celebration, we are also thrilled to welcome Debonair Dance, who will be leading an engaging and energetic workshop for the children. This will be a wonderful opportunity for pupils to learn about African dance traditions, music and movement in a fun and interactive way. In addition to this, children will also take part in arts and crafts activities, where they will explore patterns, colours and creative techniques inspired by different regions of Africa.
To participate fully in this day, the children will need to come to school dressed ready for going on holiday (for example jeans and t-shirts – NO SCHOOL UNIFORM.) Please ensure that their clothing is appropriate for the British weather at playtime though! They should also bring a small suitcase/rucksack which holds 5 items they would take for a hot African holiday. Items such as sunglasses, sunhat and swimming goggles are suitable. This will all return home at the end of the day.
The cost of this day will be £7.03 and can be paid via Parent-Pay account. For your child to take part we need to know if your child has any known allergies to animals. Please complete a consent/ information form which can be done by following the link below by no later than Friday 17th October.
Thank you for your support.
